Application Form

To apply for the competition, fill in your details below and submit. We will return to you via e-mail with information about whether or not you will take part in the competition. If you get a spot, you verify this by paying the admission fee of 350 SEK as described in the e-mail. If you haven't received an email from us with instructions within a week of having sent the application form, please let us know at compositionaward@lkss.se

This application stipulates the conditions of entry and submission pertaining to the Linköpings Studentsångare Composition Award. This agreement is between Linköpings Studentsångare, Musicum, Linköpings universitet, 581 83, Linköping, Sweden (org.nr.: 822001-5484) and the contestant:

Competition Rules

By signing this application form the contestant/participant agrees to the following:

  1. The competition is open to any female or non-binary composer, irrespective of nationality, age, or profession.
  2. Each participant may enter only one piece into the competition.
  3. The piece must be new and unpublished, must not have been entered into another competition, and must not yet have been performed. Each participant must also submit to the following:
    1. That they, upon request from either Linköpings Studentsångare or Ejeby Förlag, without further compensation will admit to let their entered contribution be published by Ejeby Förlag.
    2. That they, if contractually bound by a third party affiliation that will hinder their entered contribution to be published by Ejeby Förlag as of sending this application, disclose this within said application in order to be approved by the award administration and permitted entry into the competition.
  4. The lyrics of a submitted piece must have been written by a female or non-binary author. The lyrics used must be publicly published and the author's or editor's written permission to use the text must be enclosed when submitting the contribution. If the author has been dead for more than 70 years, seeking written permission is not required. The composer may not write the lyrics themselves, should they not also be a published poet/author. The lyrics have to be written in English, German, French or Latin. For contributions in Latin, an English translation is required. The lyrics of a submitted piece must deal with at least one of the following subjects: peace, freedom, equality of mankind, or contact/meeting with nature. The subjects may be personally and widely interpreted. Upon entry, the contestant has to submit to the following:
    1. That they are personally liable for any economical and/or judicial claim from third party regarding their (the contestant's) intentional or unintentional use of any pre-existing text that may infringe upon any third party copyright holder.
  5. The music shall be written for men ́s voices a cappella choir with 4–8 parts (TTBB–TTTTBBBB), and the duration of the piece shall be 3-5 minutes (including all movements, if subdivided).
  6. Contributions may be submitted between July 30th, 2024 and December 30th, 2024. To submit a contribution, send an e-mail to compositionaward@lkss.se containing your name and country of residence. Attach the digital scores of your contribution as a PDF file accompanied by an audio file (MIDI format or similar). For further information regarding submissions contact compositionaward@lkss.se.
  7. There is a non-refundable administrative fee of SEK 350, to be paid when entering the competition. Having been granted a spot in the competition you will be sent an email with instructions on how to pay.
  8. The competition will be judged by an internationally acclaimed jury with broad experience of choral music, comprised by composers as well as choral conductors with merits in composition and arrangement. The decision of the jury is final and cannot be appealed against.
  9. The prize is 50 000 SEK (approx. 4 400 € or 4 700 USD). In addition, after informing the composer of concern, Ejeby Förlag may at its sole discretion choose the winner and any other submitted contribution to be published.
  10. Any taxation of the prize money is to be paid solely by the recipient.
  11. The recipient of the award and the grand prize of 50 000 SEK will be announced in April or May 2025.
  12. The winning contribution will be performed by Linköpings Studentsångare in conjunction with the announcement of the winner, along with our favourite runners-up.
  13. Linköpings Studentsångare reserve the rights to include any submitted contribution in our songbook, and to include any submitted contribution in our performance repertoire.
  14. Your application form will be considered signed once we receive your admission fee, and in doing so you will thus have agreed to the rules stated here.

Note that any personal data collected will not be published and is solely to be used to confirm the identity of contestants/participants.
